It was a snowy day and Cassida was excited about her first day at “Adventure World Camp.” She hoped she got a cabin. A cabin with a fireplace and a beautiful chandelier just for her. A wooly couch and fuzzy blankets also a butler and maid. But that wasn’t a thing at “ Adventure World Camp." When she got there the gravel crunched beneath Cassida’s feet, Cassida’s mom and herself were walking up to the camps registration desk. The owner's name was quite funny to Cassida. “Hello there, I’m Miss Chia Municipal and you must be Cassida,” “Yes, I’m Cassida. Nice to meet you Miss. Municipal!” Cassida shook Miss Municipal’s hand, she squeezed hard almost cutting off Cassida’s circulation. “It’s nice to see you guys...
getting along so well but I’m Mrs. Crawford,” Miss. Municipal rolled her eyes. “Rude,” muttered Mrs. Crawford. Then Miss Municipal showed me MY TENT!!!!!! Cassida pulled her mom aside. “Mom this is outrageous!” Cassida whisper yelled “Well sweetie you can’t have a cabin with a chandelier and soft wool blankets!” Mrs. Crawford said. “How. Do. You. Know. THAT!!!!” Cassida yelled. “From nowhere,” Mrs. Crawford rushed me back to Miss. Municipal. Kids were staring outside their tents I waved to one of them and all of them popped back inside there tents. That’s weird Cassida thought and hugged her mom “Bye.” Cassida said and Mrs. Crawford rushed toward her car and drove away. Immediately Miss. Municipal’s face got stern and serious. “Rules Cassida absolutely NO running off and if you want seconds of food go buy yourself some in the city and that’s all!” Cassida then ran toward the person she had waved to but She didn’t know their name. “Ummmm hello?” Just then Cassida saw something scurry past her. She crawls deeper into the tent. “BOO!!” Yelled a British voice right next to me. “AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!” Cassida screamed really loud, her throat was aching. “Hello I’m Elizabeth LeFraugh,” then another voice came behind Cassida. “I’m AJ yo!” He said smiling “I’m….I’m Cassida Crawford,” She said, still nervous. Will this be fun? Cassida thought yes...yes it will! “Sorry about everyone, they're scared to come out of their tents because of Miss. Municipal,” Said Elizabeth bunching up her short curly blonde hair. “But Miss. Municipal is nice,” Cassida said lying in the snow. “ NOOOOO she is definitely not when you get used to her she’ll get meaner not better,” said AJ. “AJ what’s your last name?” Cassida asked. “Oh well you promise not to laugh,” said AJ. “Promise,” we locked pinkies. “Crumpkins,” AJ said shyly Cassida starred at him “ You don’t need to be ashamed AJ , it's just a last name and it’s not like the people here care all they're gonna do is pop back in their tents ,” Cassida said, swinging her arm around AJ’s shoulders. “Aww young love,” Said Elizabeth and she secretly pulled out a bedazzled phone and took a picture of me and AJ. “Why do you secretly take pictures?” Cassida asked and before she knew it Elizabeth tackled her to the ground and said. “Zip it Miss. Municipal doesn’t allow phones or the internet!” And then the whole camp chanted…… “IZZIES GOT A PHONE!!!!!” Oh no!! Cassida thought what have I done!? “Miss. Municipal I’m sure we can talk this out,” said Elizabeth walking with her. “Ok look all I wanna know is who started this?” Asked Miss. Municipal “I DID!!!!” Cassida yelled outside the cabin Miss. Municipal and Elizabeth were in. Elizabeth stared at me and mouthed “thanks” Cassida smiled back “What are you smiling about, it’s your first day and you're acting like this!” Said Miss Municipal stepping down the creaky wooden steps. “Yes ma’am I am acting like this to save my friend from getting her phone taken away,” Cassida said bravely. “Mmmm ok then well I don’t wanna put up with the drama Elizabeth get out before I change my mind.” Elizabeth ran out and gave Cassida a big hug. “THANK YOU OH THANK YOU!!!!” Yelled Elizabeth still hugging me. Miss. Municipal mumbled to herself but Cassida, Elizabeth and AJ all jumped around happily and soon enough we were sleeping waiting for a sunrise of a new day but now Cassida was snoring happily. “Cocadoodledoo!” The rooster sang, not really waking up Cassida. Cassida was used to cars zooming by and ambulances erupting with noise and her mom making fresh bacon and her dad clamoring about a guy who just won the lottery but Cassida didn’t pay any attention to that. Then she heard a deep stern yell. “GET UP CAMPERS LAST WARNING!!!!!” Cassida immediately woke up and ran outside her tent breathing hard. “Ok *sigh of relief * no one is hurt!” Since Cassida was already up she hopped over to Elizabeth's tent and shook her awake. “ Hey, wake up Miss. Municipal….” Elizabeth jumped up and hit her head on the top of the tent. “Miss. Municipal where WHERE WHAT DOES SHE WANT!!!!!” “Whoa whoa Elizabeth calm it down,” Cassida said. Elizabeth was rubbing her head. “Mmmmm sorry about that I just…..” Elizabeth stopped and didn’t move a muscle. “ROAR!!!” Kids screamed wildly running around trampling each other oh no BEAR!! “Everyone don’t panic, walk slowly to the bus,”. Said Miss. Municipal a stick in hand pointing it at the bear. Then AJ ripped off the costume not realizing the anger in Elizabeth's eyes. “Hey dawgs you people down there cool?” Laughed AJ as he struggled out. “Grrr gah help I can’t get out,” said AJ in embarrassment trying to pull his head out of the bear's mask. Soon the clouds turned dark grey and it started pouring. “Everyone get in their tents I’m going inside BUH BYE!” Everyone scattered in their tents. Cassida and Elizabeth ran to Elizabeth’s tent; it was way far in the back. We stumbled and leaped and sometimes had to pull each other out of the snow so we didn’t freeze to death. When we got to Elizabeth’s tent we got out of our heavy snow gear and lay down on the crinkly tent floor. “Ahhh so relaxing,” Cassida said calmly *pitter patter pitter patter BOOM!!* Cassida and Elizabeth sat straight up. “Just lightning.” Said Elizabeth laying back down yeah just lightning. Just lightning. KAPOW water fell in drenching Cassida and Elizabeth. “Haha!” Laughed the two running wildly to AJ’s tent. “AJ you’ll never believe this!” Said Elizabeth through laughter. “AJ?” Cassida asked gasping for air. “Leave me alone,” AJ said, moving slightly, Elizabeth put her hand on his side. “AH!” Yelled AJ in pain Cassida lifted up his shirt to look at his waist he had been badly scratched but it wasn’t like a scratch you normally get. It was a huge slice in his waist. “Oh my gosh! AJ what happened?” Cassida asked. “I….I don’t know it just appeared,” said AJ laying on his side, his fists clenched with pain. Cassida pulled Elizabeth out of AJ’s tent. “Elizabeth, this is crazy. That slice is really deep. I have to find an antidote!” Cassida’s face was pale. “NO I’m going with you I can’t lose another friend,” said Elizabeth giving Cassida a sad look Cassida no don’t fall for it no no no! Thought Cassida and sighed. “This is a job I have to do on my own.” Cassida gave Elizabeth a hug and then turned away and tried not to look back. Cassida walked to her tent, shoulders slumped, Elizabeth watched her waiting for her to get a far enough distance so she couldn’t see her through the white fog. When Cassida got to her tent she layed down. “First thing tomorrow after dinner I leave,” said Cassida sleepily. Then the rooster crowed. “Ugh that stinkin rooster,” Cassida waited for Miss. Municipal to yell “LAST WARNING!!!” But today was different. There was no yell but a sing-songy voice. “Wakie Wakie eggs and bakey!” The amazing smell of bacon floated through the open doors of Cassida’s tent. ”oh my that smell am I dreaming someone pinch me!” Said a camper struggling out of their tent and the reason Cassida knew that was because it was her next door neighbor. As the camper struggled the tent turned the doorway facing the side of Cassida’s tent, then the camper pushed forward causing it to rip a huge hole in Cassida’s tent. “HEY!” Yelled Cassida running out. “Oh my hello I’m Mrs. Matilda Cummins it’s nice to meet you!” Squealed Mrs. Matilda rushing over. “What’s going on?” Asked Mrs. Matilda. “Oh well whoever it is made a giant hole in my tent.” Cassida said through gritted teeth, waiting for her to say. “Oh well sleeping out in the snow so fun bye,” but instead she said. “Oh why don’t you stay in my cabin!” Cassida’s mouth dropped open. “wha….WHAT!” Yelled Cassida excitedly “YES I’ll stay in a cabin!” Said Cassida trying to be respectful and hold in her excited happy dance. “Well gotta go wake up the other campers!” Said the jolly fellow. She had dark brown hair put in a messy bun with bows scattered and wrapped in her dark hair. She was also dressed in a robe and it looked like the “Coat of many Colors” from the Bible with boots made from rubber with rainbows all over, they looked pretty childish to Cassida but not to Mrs. Cummins. When Elizabeth saw Cassida she immediately turned the other way. Cassida felt worried what if I lost Elizabeth and AJ their my best friends I just met. What's the right decision? What do I do? Thought Cassida as she went to get breakfast soon Cassida got the idea she was going to approach Elizabeth right after she got her courage back. As Cassida was going to get a delicious breakfast she stopped and stared at the bubbling bacon juice oozing from the piece. “Wow, that looks delish!” Said someone behind me. Before the camper could reach for the piece of bacon Cassida reached out and snatched it mmm yes bacon just like the city Cassida thought to herself until she realized it was Elizabeth. She had a crooked look. “Excuse me I’m full,” and she rushed off right She still hates me thought Cassida and not noticing snatching an egg and slapping it on her plate but before she knew it she was covered in slimy yellow goop. “YUCK!!” She yelled and stomped out of the cafeteria. Why does this have to happen to me? Cassida asked herself and then ran to her tent but she could still hear the laughter ringing in her ears. She started packing up her stuff in rage. She threw the blanket outside and knocked over the lantern wax spilling out, burning her leg. “Owww!” She yelled but was still packing. Then Cassida heard the scream that would haunt her forever. It was Elizabeth. “CASSIDA NO! NO!” Cassida started packing faster until she stopped and the yell of Elizabeth was silent. “ Elizabeth I know your there I can smell your ego from a mile away,” Cassida said angrily turning around no one was there I’m dreaming Cassida thought to herself just a dumb daydream Cassida got up and speed walked to the forest so Miss. Matilda wouldn’t see her. Cassida stopped at the large trees, the leaves were gone and the branches were covered in snow. The large trees seemed to warn her “no no don’t come in there’s danger!” But Cassida thought she had lost her mind so she kept walking. Soon the sky turned into a beautiful sunset with pinks and purples and all types of oranges with blue and yellow, Cassida unraveled her sleeping bag she had brought just in case and started a fire she took tons of sticks and rubbed them together until finally a tiny spark arose and started a nice warm fire. “Mmm food I need food but I guess I’ll do it in the morning,” Cassida slipped into her sleeping bag and drifted off to sleep. Cassida tossed and turned but soon she awoke to the morning sun *yawn* Cassida groaned but got up sleepily. Cassida yawned one more time and stretched noticing her fire was still hot. The sticks were white as the snow but it had melted most of the snow around her. Then Cassida remembered food. “Food sounds so good,” groaned Cassida. “Ok well if you want food put on your boots coat and warm socks,” said a voice. “Who’s there?” Cassida picked up her stick she used to poke the fire with. “ Who. Are. You?” Cassida asked slowly wide awake now. “Look here,” a fish came flying out of the bushes. “Show yourself!” Cassida yelled. “Ok,” and out of the bush came a boy. “Who are you?” Cassida asked again, still holding out the stick. “Robert. Robert Ellis,” Said Robert. Robert had a bearskin coat and boots, gloves, shoes, hat, everything! “Wow mighty bundled up aren’t you,” Cassida said picking up the fish. “ yeah, gotta stay warm ya know,” said Robert awkwardly. “Sorry for spookin 'ya,” said Robert in an apologetic tone. “Oh no your fine I needed it to snap out of the crazy day dreams I’m having,” Cassida said smiling. “Well what are you doing here all alone?” Asked Robert “Well I’m from Adventure World Camp,” Cassida said, turning the fish over the fire. “Oh yeah that place stinks,” said Robert sadly. “Well I’m here because my friend AJ has a scratch and the camp doesn’t have medicine so I did some research and I found out that there’s a special herb in this woods so I’m looking for it,” Cassida said, taking the fish off the fire. “Oh well if you wanna find that you gotta go to the Mysterious Man is what we call him,” Robert whispered. “Why are you whispering?” “Oh I dunno just to create suspense!” Said Robert cheerfully “So is the fish done?” “Yup golden and delicious!” Cassida replies happily. They ate and ate until the fish was gone. “Can you take me to the Mysterious Man?” Cassida asked. “ NO!!” yelled Robert birds flew up from the large trees. “Why not?” Cassida asked, finishing up the last of the fish. “It’s too dangerous,” Robert said. “Please, it's for my friend, his scratch is bad!” Cassida gave him puppy eyes. “No,yes,no,yes,YES!” Robert cried. “I mean fine I guess,” he grumbled “I’m gonna regret this,” mumbled Robert and we walked to see the Mysterious Man. Day one of the journey “I’m tired,” Cassida whined. “Come on put on your big girl pants and GO!!” yelled Robert annoyed. “But...but,” Cassida sputtered. “No stop you wanna see the Mysterious Man don’t ya!” “YES!!!” Cassida yelled. “Ok then go,” Robert pointed forward. “Just two more days and boom we’ll be there!” Said Robert his feet crunched in the snow. “2 MORE DAYS!!” Cassida screamed. “That’s outrageous!” Cassida yelled Robert mumbled but kept going. Cassida stayed silent after that Cassida didn’t want him to get mad and not help her. It was almost dark and Cassida saw the same sunset she had seen last night. It seemed like the previous day had started over. “Pretty sky isn't it?” Asked Robert lying down. “Yeah it is pretty,” Cassida said sleepily and lay down and her mind dove into a wonderful dream. Day two of the journey “Wake up, it's time for moving, let's go find that man!” Yelled Robert “Fine,” Cassida got up almost falling on him. “Ohhh my ahh!” Robert said in alarm and helped lift Cassida back up. “Thanks,” but before Cassida could even blink Robert was already halfway down the path. “ WAIT UP!!” Cassida yelled after him throwing on her coat. Soon we saw a frozen creek. “Ah ha I’ll break open the ice and you can just follow,” Robert said pulling his shiny pic axe from his belt. Cassida hopped across rocks as Robert shoveled out ice just then Cassida heard a big rustle. “Uhh Robert,” Cassida said rushing over. “ not now!” He said still shoveling out ice, then Cassida heard it again. “ ROBERT!” Cassida yelled in his ear. “WHAT?” Robert yelled back. “BEAR!!!” Cassida screamed her face turning pale. “ but bears are supposed to be in hibernation!” Robert explained. “I know but just RUN!” They ran and ran. “Cover yourself with mud!” Yelled Robert they dove into the snow and dug like their lives depended on it. AND IT DID! They dug and dug until they hit soil they covered themselves and the bear trotted along not even noticing Robert and Cassida. Day three the last day “We should be there anytime now,” said Robert excitedly. “Yay I can’t wait!” Cassida squealed. “One more step and boom we’re here!” Said Robert Cassida craned her neck to see the tip top of the tower. “The Mysterious Man should be up at the tippy top,” Robert pointed to the top of the tower. “Sooo many stairs,” Cassida groaned. “Well let’s go!” Said Robert and soon they were at the top of the tower. “Hello?” Cassida asked into the darkness. “The antidote at your feet.” Said a voice it sounded old and rotten. “Ummm thanks,” Cassida picked up the box of glass bottles and slowly handed them to Robert. “What are you doing?” Asked Robert. “Come on,” he grabbed Cassida’s big hand and they trekked back down the stairs and walked toward the opening of the forest. When Elizabeth saw Cassida she burst into tears. “CASSIDA!!” she screamed with a smile. “Oh Cassida how I missed you!” She hugged her tight. “You have the antidote right?” Asked Elizabeth staring at Robert. “Yes,” Cassida said and carefully grabbed the the box and they rushed over to AJ he was still in pain. “Hello….Cassida,” AJ said weakly. Cassida rubbed the ointment all over his waist. “Ouch that stings!” AJ said. “Thank you Cassida thank you,” AJ said and fell asleep. “Robert I could have never done it without you,” Cassida gave Robert a big hug and he disappeared into the large trees. “Cassida honey are you ok?” Cried Mrs. Crawford and ran over and clicked her phone off. “I had the best time of my life!” And it was true.
